Aernout Mik

  1. Aernout Mik (born 1962) is an artist using film, performance, sculpture, architecture and installation to interrogate our view of reality and the relationship between actor and observer. He was awarded the A.H. Heineken Prize for Art in 2002. He represented the Netherlands in the Dutch Pavilion at the 52nd Venice Biennale, Venice, 2007 with multiple works and an architectural intervention in the pavilion under the title Citizens and Subjects: Aernout Mik, curated by Maria Hlavajova. Mik’s recent exhibitions include: Artist File, The National Art Center, Tokyo, 2010; Aernout Mik: touch, rise and fall, Perth International Arts Festival, Perth, 2010; Aernout Mik, Museum of Modern Art, New York, 2009; Raw Footage, Moderna Galerija, Ljubljana, 2008; Prospect.1, New Orleans, 2008; The Prehistory of the Crisis, Project Arts Centre, Dublin, 2008; and Short Stories, Museum für Gestaltung, Zurich, 2008. His work will be presented in the 29th São Paulo Biennale, São Paulo, 2010. Mik lives and works in Amsterdam.
