Jagdish Bhagwati
In Defense of Globalization
Oxford University Press, 2007
ISBN 9780195330939

  1. Written by a former advisor to the UN on globalization, this controversial but much-read book argues for a defense of globalization in part from a non-western perspective, claiming that the anti-globalization movement has vastly exaggerated claims that globalization does not improve the lives of people in poorer countries. This could be read as a counterpart to Stiglitz’s famous Globalization and Its Discontents. See chapter 4 Appropriate Governance: Making Globalization Better for a view of how Bhagwati thinks globalization can have an ethical and emancipatory dimension with proper regulatory oversight.
