This sequel to Devij’s earlier book Landscapes of Jihad focuses on how the new militancy of Islamism (as embodied by Al Qaeda) is qualitatively different from radical movements of the past, in particular because it fragments the traditional structures of Muslim authority in its loose networked structure and transnational quality.
